Kiyomizudera (清水寺, literally "Pure Water Temple") is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan. It was founded in 780 on the site of the Otowa Waterfall in the wooded hills east of Kyoto, and derives its name from the fall's pure waters.
SEPCIAL NIGHT VIEWING VISIT KIYOMIZUDERA TEMPLE
Kiyomizu-Dera is best reached by bus from Kyoto station. Hop on bus number 100 or 206. The journey takes about 15 minutes and costs 230 yen for the one-way ride. Jump off at Gojo-zakat or Kiyomizu-michi bus stop. The rest of the trip to the temple is on foot, walking uphill along Higashiyama.

For sakura and fall colors seasons, Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto, Japan has special night illumination. We visited during the lighting for cherry blossom season, and thought we'd share some of our experience and tips we learned during that visit.

Kiyomizu Temple is normally open from 6:00 to 18:00. However, during the spring, summer, and autumn illumination periods, you can also visit at night. Over 500 beautiful lights are installed across the area, and the illuminated trees stand out brilliantly against the night view of the city.
